Theme: 🪨 Rooted, Radiant, and Resilient

🪬 Setup

  • A basket or bowl filled with small stones (one for each participant, plus a few extras).

  • Paint/Pens/markers (paint pens or permanent markers if you want people to write directly on stones, or slips of paper if they’ll wrap the paper around it).

  • A central altar with autumn symbols: leaves, acorns, gourds, apples, and a large candle/lantern (Hunter’s Moon light).

  • Drums, rattles, or soft humming/chanting.

  • Optional: a bowl of moon water for blessing stones.

🔮 Flow

1. Opening & Grounding

“Welcome, friends, to the Hunter’s Moon. Tonight, the moon shines bright to light our path into the dark half of the year. Our ancestors called this the season of gathering, gathering food, firewood, and strength for the long nights ahead.

So too do we gather here, to claim the strengths, the blessings, and the gifts that will sustain us.

Take a few breaths. Feel the earth beneath you, solid and steady. Feel the moonlight above you, glowing and bright. Between earth and sky, you stand rooted and radiant. You already carry strength within you, and tonight, we gather it more fully.” (pause for 3–4 breaths)

2. Calling the Elements

  • East / Air: “I call to the East, to the winds that sharpen thought and carry vision. Spirits of Air, breathe clarity and inspiration into our gathering. Be with us now.”

  • South / Fire: “I call to the South, to the flame that warms and transforms. Spirits of Fire, ignite our courage and passion. Be with us now.”

  • West / Water: “I call to the West, to the flowing waters of heart and soul. Spirits of Water, bring us compassion and connection. Be with us now.”

  • North / Earth: “I call to the North, to the stone and soil, the roots and bones. Spirits of Earth, ground us in strength and stability. Be with us now.”

  • Center / Spirit (optional): “I call to the Center, to Spirit that weaves all things. Be within us and among us as we gather strength beneath the Hunter’s Moon.”

3. Introducing the Work

“Before us are stones, shaped by earth and time. Stones are strong, steady, and enduring. Tonight, each of us will claim a strength to carry into the coming season, something that will root us, guide us, and keep us steady in the dark.

As we hold our stones, we will write or speak the strength we choose, and in doing so, we will anchor it into our lives.”

4. Choosing the Strength

“I invite you to come forward and take a stone from the basket. Hold it in your hands. Feel its weight, its coolness, its solidity.

Now, choose a strength that you wish to gather; it may be something you already carry, or something you are calling in: courage, patience, joy, resilience, clarity, compassion.

Take a moment to close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let the word come to you. When you are ready, write it on your stone (or on a slip of paper to wrap around it).” (allow several quiet minutes; soft drumming, rattling, or humming may begin as people finish)

5. Charging the Stones

“When your stone carries your chosen strength, come forward to the altar. One by one, hold your stone to your heart and say aloud:

‘I gather the strength of [chosen word]. May it root in me, grow through me, and guide me in the season ahead.’

Then place your stone briefly by the central candle, where the moon’s light and fire’s warmth may bless it.

When you have done so, return to your place. The circle will hum, drum, or softly chant as each person names their strength, weaving our power together.” (continue until all stones have been placed and blessed; allow a quiet pause with the stones glowing in the candlelight)

6. Witnessing the Strengths

“Look now upon our gathered strengths. See how many forms strength can take: courage, love, clarity, joy, wisdom, resilience…

Together, they form a harvest greater than any one of us could carry alone. Each stone is part of this abundance, yet each will return with us to light our personal paths.”

7. Closing Blessing

“Now take your stone back into your hands. This is yours to carry. Keep it on your altar, in your pocket, by your bed, or anywhere it will remind you of the strength you hold.

Together, let us bless them: May these stones be anchors of strength. May they root us when we falter. May they shine when shadows grow long. May they remind us of the Hunter’s Moon, and of the circle that gathers us in strength.

Together we say: Strength gathered, strength shared, Strength carried into the dark. So may it be.

(optional: anoint stones with moon water, saying “Strength be with you.”)

8. Releasing the Elements

  • North / Earth “Spirits of Earth, who grounded and steadied us, we thank you. Remain ever with us, but depart from this circle in peace.”

  • West / Water “Spirits of Water, who filled us with compassion and flow, we thank you. Remain ever with us, but depart from this circle in peace.”

  • South / Fire “Spirits of Fire, who sparked our courage and passion, we thank you. Remain ever with us, but depart from this circle in peace.”

  • East / Air “Spirits of Air, who brought clarity and vision, we thank you. Remain ever with us, but depart from this circle in peace.”

  • Center / Spirit (optional) “Spirit that weaves all things, we thank you. Remain ever with us, but depart from this circle in peace.”
