The Ring of Fire Eclipse: A Ritual for New Beginnings and Transformation

On February 17, 2026, the cosmos gifts us a rare and powerful celestial event: an annular solar eclipse, known as the "Ring of Fire." While most of the world won't see this eclipse directly, it will be visible primarily from remote Antarctica; its energetic influence reaches across the entire planet. This is a moment when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, creating a luminous ring of solar fire that speaks to cycles ending and beginning, to darkness giving way to light, and to the sacred geometry of celestial alignment.

What makes this eclipse even more remarkable is its timing. It coincides with the Chinese Lunar New Year, ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse, a sign associated with courage, passion, transformation, and bold forward movement. It also marks the beginning of Ramadan, making this a convergence of multiple sacred traditions and a powerful portal for spiritual work.

Even if you cannot witness the eclipse with your physical eyes, you can work with its energy through intentional ritual.

Understanding the Ring of Fire

An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is at or near its farthest point from Earth (apogee), making it appear slightly smaller than the Sun. When the Moon passes in front of the Sun, it cannot completely cover our star. Instead, it creates a stunning ring of fire as the Sun's corona blazes around the Moon's silhouette.

This eclipse will last approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds at its maximum point, with the Moon covering 96% of the Sun's visible surface. The path of annularity, where the full ring of fire will be visible, stretches 2,661 miles across remote Antarctic regions, while partial phases will be visible from southern Africa, the southern tip of South America, and various Antarctic research stations.

The eclipse begins at 11:42 UTC (4:42 AM MST), reaches maximum at 12:11 UTC (5:11 AM MST), and concludes approximately 4.5 hours later.

The Spiritual Significance

Eclipses have been recognized as powerful turning points across cultures for millennia. They represent:

  • Endings and Beginnings: The temporary obscuring of the Sun symbolizes the death of old patterns and the birth of new possibilities

  • Shadow Work: Eclipses invite us to look at what's been hidden, repressed, or ignored

  • Transformation: The Ring of Fire specifically speaks to alchemical transformation, being refined by fire, emerging stronger

  • Divine Intervention: Moments when the veil between worlds grows thin and spiritual downloads become accessible

  • Acceleration: Eclipse energy tends to speed up karmic lessons and necessary changes

The Year of the Fire Horse energy amplifies themes of:

  • Courage and boldness

  • Breaking free from restrictions

  • Passionate pursuit of goals

  • Independence and self-reliance

  • Dynamic, transformative action

A Ring of Fire Eclipse Ritual: Building Your Cosmic Circle of Power

This ritual can be performed whether you can see the eclipse or not. The energetic portal remains open for approximately three days before and after the eclipse, so you can perform this ritual anytime from February 14-20, 2026, with the most powerful time being during the actual eclipse window.

What You'll Need:

  • 8-12 tea light candles (gold, orange, red, or white, whatever you have)

  • A larger pillar or taper candle in gold, orange, or red for the center (the "Sun")

  • Red, orange, or gold embroidery thread, yarn, or cord (at least 12 inches)

  • Small charms, beads, or found objects that represent your intentions (optional but powerful)

  • Paper and pen

  • A piece of jewelry, a stone, or another object you'll charge as your eclipse talisman

  • Optional: Frankincense, dragon's blood, or cinnamon incense

  • Optional: Clear quartz, carnelian, or citrine crystals

  • A fireproof surface or tray to contain your Ring of Fire

Preparation:

Choose a quiet space where you won't be disturbed and where you can safely arrange candles in a circle. If you can perform this ritual outdoors, even better, though remember that you should NEVER look directly at a solar eclipse without proper eclipse glasses, even during an annular eclipse. The safest option is to perform this ritual indoors or without looking at the Sun.

Cleanse your space using your preferred method (smoke, sound, visualization, etc.). Set up your working space facing south (the direction of the eclipse's strongest visibility).

The Ritual:

1. Building the Ring of Fire (10-15 minutes before eclipse maximum or at your chosen time)

Arrange your tea lights in a circle on your fireproof surface, leaving enough space in the center for your larger candle and working materials. The circle should be large enough that you can comfortably reach into the center but small enough to feel contained and powerful, about 12-18 inches in diameter works well.

Place your center candle (the "Sun") in the middle of the circle. Around the Sun candle, arrange your cord, your talisman object, and any crystals or charms you're using.

Light your incense if using.

2. Opening Invocation and Lighting the Ring

Begin in the east (or wherever feels right to you). Light the first tea light and say:

"I kindle the first flame of transformation."

Move clockwise around your circle, lighting each tea light one by one. With each flame, you can speak a quality you're calling in:

  • "I kindle courage."

  • "I kindle passion."

  • "I kindle clarity."

  • "I kindle strength."

  • "I kindle creativity."

  • "I kindle abundance."

  • "I kindle joy."

  • "I kindle power."

(Use as many or as few qualities as you have candles and customize this to your needs!)

When all the tea lights are burning, stand or sit before your Ring of Fire and take a moment to appreciate what you've created. This is the eclipse in miniature, a ring of solar fire surrounding a central point of focus.

3. Awakening the Sun

Light the center candle and say:

"Great Sun, temporarily veiled by the Moon's passage, I honor your eternal light that never truly dims. Fire Horse spirit, bold and bright, Fill this circle with transformative might. Moon that dances across the Sun's face, Bring me wisdom, intuition, and grace. This Ring of Fire mirrors the cosmos above, I stand in its center, ready to become."

4. Weaving Your Intentions (the heart of the ritual)

Take your paper and write 3-5 intentions for the next six months. Be specific. Write them as if they're already happening:

  • "I am confident in my creative work and share it boldly with the world."

  • "I am financially abundant and opportunities flow to me easily."

  • "I am healthy, strong, and full of vitality."

When you've written your intentions, read them aloud. Let yourself really feel them. Get emotional if it comes as passion fuels magic.

Now take your cord. Hold one end and begin tying knots in it, one for each intention. As you tie each knot, speak the intention aloud again and visualize it manifesting. See it, feel it, believe it.

Continue with as many knots as you have intentions. As you work, the flames of your Ring of Fire are charging each knot with eclipse energy. You're quite literally weaving your future into being, surrounded by transformative fire.

5. Charging Your Talisman

When your cord is complete, tie the ends together to create a bracelet, necklace, or simply a knotted circle of power. If you're using beads or charms, thread them on before tying the ends.

Place this knotted cord in the very center of your circle, touching or wrapping around your Sun candle.

Now take your talisman object. This could be a ring, a necklace, a stone, a key, anything that you can carry with you. Hold it in both hands and pass it slowly through the space above each tea light, moving clockwise around your Ring of Fire. As you do, visualize each flame adding its particular quality to your talisman:

"Courage, passion, clarity, strength, Creativity, abundance, joy, and power, I charge this talisman with eclipse fire, It carries the magic of this transformative hour."

When you've passed it through all the flames, hold it to your heart and speak:

"Ring of Fire, Ring of Gold, Ancient power, brave and bold, Moon and Sun in sacred dance, I claim my power, seize my chance. I am the eclipse, shadow and light, I am the Fire Horse, blazing bright, By cosmic alignment and my own will, This talisman holds my magic still. As above, so below, As I speak it, it is so."

Place the talisman in the center with your knotted cord.

6. Meditation in the Ring

Sit comfortably before your Ring of Fire. Gaze softly at the flames (don't stare, just let your vision relax). Watch how the flames dance and flicker. Each flame is independent, yet together they create something greater, a unified circle of power.

Close your eyes and visualize yourself standing in a massive Ring of Fire, cosmic in scale, blazing around you like the eclipse itself. Feel its heat, its energy, its transformative power. You are safe in its center. You are being refined, strengthened, empowered.

Spend at least 10-15 minutes in this meditation. You may receive insights, visions, or simply feel a deep sense of peace and power. Trust whatever comes.

7. Gratitude and Closing

When you feel complete, place your hands over your heart and say:

"I give thanks to the Sun for life and vitality, I give thanks to the Moon for wisdom and mystery, I give thanks to the Fire Horse for courage and passion, I give thanks to this eclipse for transformation and power. The Ring of Fire has done its work, The magic is woven, the power awakened. As I will it, so it is done."

8. Tending the Flames

Allow your Ring of Fire to burn completely if possible. Tea lights typically burn for 3-4 hours, so this may mean sitting with them, meditating, reading, or doing quiet activities in their presence. If you must leave, extinguish them safely and relight them later to finish burning.

As each tea light burns out naturally, thank it for its service.

When only your center Sun candle remains burning, let it burn for at least another 20 minutes. This is the Sun re-emerging from the eclipse, stronger, renewed, triumphant.

9. Keeping the Magic Alive

Once all candles have burned out completely:

  • Wear or carry your charged talisman daily for the next 28 days (one full moon cycle)

  • Keep your knotted intention cord on your altar, under your pillow, or in a special place

  • Each morning, touch the cord and feel each knot, reaffirming your intentions

  • When one of your intentions manifests, you can untie that knot as an offering of gratitude

Your paper with written intentions can be folded and kept in a special place, or you can bury it in the earth to let your intentions take root.

After the Ritual: Integration Period

Eclipse energy works in waves. You've planted seeds during the ritual, but they need tending. For the next 28 days (one full moon cycle):

  • Daily practice: Each morning, hold your charged talisman or read your intentions. Feel them as already manifested for 3-5 minutes.

  • Watch for signs: Pay attention to synchronicities, dreams, and unexpected opportunities that align with your intentions.

  • Take inspired action: Fire Horse energy requires movement. Don't just sit and wait, gallop toward your goals with courage.

  • Journal: Note changes, insights, and progress. Eclipse portals often bring rapid transformation.

  • Be gentle with yourself: Transformation can be intense. Rest when needed.

Special Considerations

If you cannot perform the ritual during the eclipse window: The energy remains accessible for several days. Choose a time when you can be fully present rather than rushing through it during the actual eclipse if that doesn't work for you.

If you're in a visible zone: Please remember that you must NEVER look directly at the Sun during any phase of an eclipse without certified eclipse glasses. This ritual is designed to be performed safely without viewing the eclipse.

If you're sensitive to eclipse energy: Some people experience headaches, emotional intensity, or vivid dreams during eclipse season. Ground yourself regularly (walk barefoot, eat root vegetables, spend time in nature), drink plenty of water, and be extra compassionate with yourself.

The Year Ahead

This Ring of Fire eclipse is just the beginning of an extraordinary eclipse season that extends into 2027 and 2028. We're entering what astronomers call a "golden age" of solar eclipses, with three total eclipses and three annular eclipses occurring in just over two years.

Each eclipse offers its own medicine, its own transformation. But this first one, aligned with the Lunar New Year, with the Fire Horse, with the beginning of Ramadan, this one sets the tone for everything that follows.

Make it count. Be bold. Be courageous. Let yourself be refined in the cosmic fire.

The Ring of Fire isn't just in the sky, it's within you, waiting to be awakened.

May you emerge from this eclipse transformed, empowered, and ready to gallop fearlessly into your highest destiny.

And so it is.
