Dark Moon in Aries 2026: Ignite and Initiate

  • 4 min read

Time: Ideally, just before or right when the New Moon occurs (early morning of April 17)

Supplies:

  • Tarot or oracle deck

  • Journal & pen

  • A red or orange candle

  • A mirror (handheld or standing)

  • A piece of red thread or ribbon (12-18 inches long)

  • A bowl of fresh water with ice cubes

  • Optional: carnelian, red jasper, or garnet (for courage & vitality)

  • Optional: incense or smudge (e.g. dragon's blood, cinnamon, or ginger)

  • A small bell or chime

  • Upbeat, energizing music (optional but recommended)

1. Prepare Your Sacred Space (5–7 min)

Turn on a bright light or open the curtains. Aries energy is bold and unafraid of being seen.

Light your candle with intention and purpose.

Place the mirror where you can see yourself clearly.

If you smoke cleanse or burn incense, do that now to charge the space with fiery energy.

Stand and take 3 sharp, energizing breaths, inhale through your nose, exhale forcefully through your mouth like a warrior's battle cry.

2. Opening Movement & Invocation (5–7 min)

Stand in a power stance (feet wide, hands on hips or raised overhead).

Speak boldly (don't whisper): "I am ready. I am brave. I claim my right to begin. I step forward with courage. I trust my fire. I AM."

Physical activation sequence (do each movement with intention):

*Note: this is for more able-bodied witches. Please listen to your needs and find something that fits your situation. These are just examples.

  • 10 jumping jacks (to wake up your body and shake off hesitation)

  • 5 forward lunges on each leg (stepping into new territory)

  • 3 strong, wide arm circles (claiming your space)

  • 1 loud clap or stomp (announcing your presence)

Ring your bell or chime three times, declaring: "I begin. I begin. I BEGIN."

Return to your space. Dip your fingers in the ice water and touch your temples (clarity), your heart (courage), and the back of your neck (action).

3. Tarot Spread: "The Warrior's Path"

Shuffle with fierce intention, asking what you're being called to initiate and where you need to be brave. Draw 5 cards in a sword or arrow formation (pointing forward):

Position

Meaning

1. Where I've Been Waiting

The place in my life where I've been hesitating, overthinking, or waiting for permission that will never come.

2. The Fear Wearing a Disguise

What I've been calling "caution" or "being smart" that's actually just fear of being seen, failing, or standing alone.

3. My Warrior Medicine

The specific kind of courage or boldness that lives in me, ready to be activated. My unique fighting spirit.

4. The First Strike

The immediate, concrete action I'm being called to take. The first bold move that sets everything in motion.

5. Who I Become

The version of myself that exists on the other side of this initiation. The identity I'm stepping into.

Take your time with each card. Notice where you feel the pull to move, to act, to finally DO the thing.

4. Deep Journal Prompts (10–15 min)

Write quickly and boldly. Let your hand move fast across the page:

  • What would I start TODAY if I trusted myself completely? What am I waiting for that I actually already have inside me?

  • Where have I been making myself small, polite, or palatable when what's actually needed is my raw, unapologetic truth? What happens when I stop editing myself?

  • If I had the courage of a warrior, what would be different about how I move through the world? What's one way I can embody that courage RIGHT NOW?

Let yourself be direct. Aries doesn't hedge or qualify. Write like you mean it.

5. Mirror Work & Identity Declaration (7–10 min)

Stand in front of your mirror. Look yourself directly in the eyes.

Hold your red thread/ribbon in your hands.

Speak aloud to your reflection, completing these statements with absolute conviction:

  • "I am no longer the person who ________ (names old pattern/identity)."

  • "I am becoming the person who ________ (names new identity/action)."

  • "I claim my right to ________ (names what you're initiating)."

Tie the red thread around your wrist (or ankle, or carry it with you) as a physical reminder of your commitment. Each time you see it, remember: You already started. You already began.

Place your hands on your heart and speak your battle cry. This is a single word or phrase that captures your intention. Say it three times, getting louder each time:

  • (Softly) "Courage."

  • (Louder) "COURAGE."

  • (Loudly) "COURAGE!"

*Note: This is just one example of a battle cry word.

6. The First Action (5–7 min)

On a fresh page in your journal, write: "THE FIRST STRIKE" at the top.

Below it, list 3 concrete actions you will take in the next 3 days to initiate your new beginning. These should be SPECIFIC and IMMEDIATE:

  • Not "start exercising" → "Sign up for the Tuesday class"

  • Not "work on my business" → "Send the pitch email to three potential clients"

  • Not "be braver" → "Say no to the thing I don't want to do"

Choose ONE of these three actions and commit to doing it within 24 hours.

Stand or sit, ring your bell/chime again, and declare: "I begin NOW. Not tomorrow. Not when I'm ready. NOW."

7. Kinetic Release & Seal (3–5 min)

Take your bowl of ice water outside or to a sink.

As you pour it out (preferably onto earth or down the drain), imagine it carrying away all the hesitation, the overthinking, the waiting.

Say aloud: "I release the need to be certain. I release the need for permission. I release the wait. I AM THE BEGINNING."

Return to your space. Stand or sit tall, extinguish your candle with a confident breath, and say: "It is done. I have begun."

8. Accountability Charm (Optional)

Text or email someone you trust (or write it in your journal if you prefer privacy) with this message: "I'm starting [specific thing], and I'm doing [specific first action] by [specific deadline]. This is happening."

Making it real by speaking it out loud, even to one person, activates Aries's "I do what I say" energy.

Note: Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, carrying pure initiatory fire. This is the courage to begin before you're ready, to act before you have all the answers, to become by doing. This new moon is your cosmic permission slip to STOP WAITING. The path doesn't appear before you walk it. You create it by moving. Trust your impulse. Honor your instinct. The time is now.
